Beijing No. 35 Middle School was named Zhicheng Middle School when it was established in 1923. Li Dazhao, a well-known revolutionary pioneer in China, once worked as board member in the school. In 1952, Zhicheng Middle School was renamed Beijing No. 35 Middle School. As a key middle school in Xicheng District, the school was recognized as model high school in Beijing by Beijing Municipal Education Commission in 2005. Through 90 years’ development and several generations’ efforts, by now the school has become a characteristic key middle school with a stable education quality. It attaches importance to students’ all-round development.

The school strives to cultivate global people with Chinese feelings and Chinese people with global feelings. It treats its International Department as a test field for curriculum reform, an incubator for new curricula, and a training base for top teachers. Meanwhile, the school plans to develop its own international curricula independently in five to ten years so that children who have no opportunity to study abroad can receive the best internationalized education at home. In the process of comparative studies of curricula, the school’s International Department integrates Chinese senior high school curricula with American ones. Both Chinese credit points and American credit points are accepted. The school mainly teaches Chinese basic curricula that are highly accepted by international colleges/universities. It also teaches characteristic contents of American curricula. Based on the demands for human quality in the 21st century and each student’s career planning, the advantages of Chinese-style education and western-style education are brought together to lay a foundation for students’ all-round development and lifelong development.

Achievements

The first year’s graduates of the International Department are studying abroad. 55% of them took part in the direct entrance program and all were allowed to become a sophomore of overseas famous universities without taking TOEFL and SAT. 45% of them applied for the Elite Program. On average, each received four top universities’ offer. 70% of them won a four-year scholarship, ranging from USD 8,000 to 22,000. In the past three years, the International Department developed nearly 20 curricula. Nearly 10 curricula were taught in the school’s Senior High School Education Department and Junior High School Education Department, injecting new vitality into the school’s campus culture, student culture, curriculum culture, and teacher culture and providing precious experience and chances to the school’s curriculum reform. In addition, the school offered some curricula and high-quality foreign teachers to Caiyu Middle School, driving the development of local education and economy.
